University of Michigan Survey of Consumers April 2012 (Early)

Today's early release of the Reuters/University of Michigan Survey of Consumers for April indicated a decline in consumer sentiment from the prior month with a reading of 75.7 but improvement on an annual basis with the level increasing 8.45% above a year ago while one year inflation expectations eased to 3.4%.

The Index of Consumer Expectations (a component of the Conference Board's Index of Leading Economic Indicators) climbed to 72.5, and the Current Economic Conditions Index declined to 80.6.

It's important to recognize that consumer sentiment has seriously eroded over the past few months with the current results remaining near levels not seen since 1980, a major indication that consumers are in the process of tightening even further on spending.

  • I think this decline in consumer sentiment is partially attributed to the struggling economy. Many people are starting to get frustrated with the limited job growth, struggling economy, stagnant stock market and lack of small business development. Until we have a shift via macro-economic events leading to positive and realized growth I feel their numbers are only going to decline further.

  • Growth and the GOOD radical, radical CUTS in spending.

When spending is done in the way it has been for the last three years it is not spending it is waste.

And what DC-ites seem to be completely ignorant of is the fact that American people work hard, give up huge amounts of their time and expend enormous effort to earn each and every dollar that they, those horrible DC-ites, pee away by the trillions now!

It is as much our country as theirs, maybe more as we are the producers and they are not.

Milton Friedman was very clear about the value of those of us who produce.

    November.
